Peptitler (Grekçe: πεπτίδια; “ıvır zıvır sindirilebilirler”) tanımlanmış bir düzende, α-amino asitlerin birbirine sargılanmasıyla oluşan kısaca polimerlerdir.[1] Bir amino asit lakırtııntısı ile başkası arasındaki bağ bir “amit bağ” yahut peptit bağı olarak bilinir.[1]
Tetrapeptit (Oligopeptit)
Proteinler polipeptit molekülleridir (yahut çok adetda polipeptit zir birimi çitndırır). Omurga nüans peptitlerin kısaca, polipeptitlerin/proteinlerin ise uzun olmasıdır.[1]
Protein sentezi esnasında her amino asit, vesair amino asite temelli, kırılmayan bir polimer olan polipeptid zincirleriyle sargılanır. Polipeptid kuruluşsına taşlıklan amino asitlerin her biri kuruluşya peptid sargılarıyla sargılanır. Peptid bağının oluşumu esnasında amino asitlerden birinin amino grubu ile diğerinin karboksil grubu, aradan bir ab çıkması sonucu birleşirler.[1]
Vasati bir polipeptit zinciri 450 amino asitten oluşur.[1] Bilindik en uzun polipeptit, takribî 27,000 amino asitten oluşan, kas dokusunda kâin “titin”dir. Polipeptid zincirine taşlıklan amino asitlere lakırtııntı (residue) adı verilir.[1] Zincirin bir ucundaki lakırtııntı, bağ yapmamış, muaf amino grubu çitndırır ve N ucu olarak adlandırılır. Aynı şekilde zincirin vesair ucundaki muaf α-karboksil grubu olan lakırtııntıya C ucu adı verilir.
